New style and code

Following on from my post about asides I’ve had a look at trying to create something else. Those of you in the know will clearly see the similar layout to that of Michael’s recent Invader style. Yup that is the inspiration, I’m not going to try and hide it, however I will point out that I’ve not ripped his code or ‘borrowed’ CSS file’s (well clearly looking at the layout) I have spent the time trying to understand ‘theloop’ and the files of K2 and build my own version upon it. I’ve also tried this AJAX thing that every one is going on about or using. There are still a lot of bugs and poorly written code here but it was an interesting little experiment.
To be honest I reckon I’ll change it soon, once I get a better grip on the coding I’ll put mu own spin on it. Full marks to BB for the inspiration.

Haha, I was actually gonna’ point out the similarities between Micheal’s layout and yours if you hadn’t. I like it, though. It’s good to see some changes going on in my daily reads. Keep up the good work, mate.

Check out what I’ve been up to with my new layout. Maybe it’ll give you some more direction.

Oh, and how were you able to separate your regular entries from your asides like that? BB does it, too, and I was trying to figure out how it’s done.

Thanks Matt, I will always point out the true inspiration and mention where necessary, hope Micheal doesn’t mind as Invader is his own style. The idea of having the seperate sections for posts and asides is one I’ve been throwing about for a while (before Invader to be honest) but I’ve never come up with the functional way of doing it, seeing Invader proved it was possible, now I had to work the code. It is basically a modified K2 loop, with an extra ‘if’ statement to create two seperate sets of posts, then just stick them between your div’s and bingo. Sounds so simple but I will put money on my code being bloated and incorrect. I like your thoughts on ‘juicy’ is that functional of just idea’s at present? Feeling some more idea’s coming along…

Hats off to you for thinking about isolating the asides from normal entries long before a lot of other people did. I love that idea, and I’ve been trying all morning writing a new if statement. I can’t get mine to work at all. It’s really beginning to try me because usually I’d be whipping right through PHP.

Juicy has some functionality locally, and yes, it is basically just ideas at present. I’m still working out color issues and various other elements. I’ll need to implement Inman’s Flash Replacement for the post ID font when I upload to my remote server; I need to tweak most of the typography for accessibility. It’s slowly coming all together.

no probs I’ll dig out the code and a little readme thing and mail it over. Sounds strange I know but I kind of hacked the front page to look like that, all will become clear.
